Our Story

A Brand Built

Around Connection.

Created for Our Family. Made for Yours.

It started with one question: "When is Daddy coming home?"

As a firefighter family, it was a question we heard ALL the time.

Our son was too young to understand why Daddy was home some days and gone on others. Or why that schedule could suddenly change! Bedtime was especially hard when he was missing that one-on-one connection, and overtime or an unexpected holdover could make things even more confusing.  We realized we were trying to explain time in a way that made sense to adults, not kids.

He didn’t need us to keep explaining the schedule.

He needed a way to see it.

So we started making something for him. After nearly a year of prototyping, we created our Hero Schedule Board. They turn complicated schedules into something visual and engaging, inviting children into their parents’ world in a way made for them. They’re also fun!

Then we realized we weren’t the only ones navigating this. Families in law enforcement, EMS, doctors, nurses, aviation, and countless other professions with nontraditional work hours face the same challenge of helping young children make sense of schedules that don’t always look the same from week to week.

So we kept testing, refining, and redesigning until our homemade solution became something we were proud to share with other families.

Our Story

Hi! We’re Diana and Justin, a husband-and-wife team, parents of two, and the founders behind

Connected Family Creative.

Our story began in the summer of 2012 while Diana was finishing her senior year of high school and Justin was in EMT school on his way to becoming a firefighter. What started as a fun summer romance turned into a lifetime together. Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of growing up alongside each other through new careers, marriage in 2019, and now the incredible adventure of raising our two young children.

Justin and I have always balanced each other out. He is the dreamer, always coming up with big ideas and asking, “What if?” I’m the planner, usually thinking through how we can actually turn (some of) those ideas into reality. â€‹We’ve always been a really good team! More than anything, we’re incredibly proud to be parents. This season of life has reshaped our priorities in the best possible way, and we’ve embraced the ways parenthood continues to change us. Connected Family Creative is a natural extension of our journey. What started as a passion project built during naptimes, stroller walks, late nights and plenty of moments working from bed with a baby and toddler next to us has evolved into what it is today. Everything we create is inspired by our dedication to serve shift-working families build stronger relationships and feel more connected. We're so grateful you've welcomed us into your home!

Meet Diana Trejo

Hi! I'm Diana, a mom of two and someone who genuinely loves understanding how young children experience the world.

After earning my Master of Public Health, I spent six years working in local government leading homeless services initiatives. After our son was born in 2024, I stepped away from full-time government work and co-founded CityWise, a consulting firm that partners with public agencies on strategic planning and community engagement. Today, I have the privilege of balancing that work and this business with the beautiful chaos of raising our two kids.

When I find a few spare minutes (HAHA!), you can usually find me squeezing in a quick workout, enjoying coffee, reading, spending the day at Disneyland, headbanging at a bass music festival (yes, moms can still have fun!), or getting outside with my family and friends.

Meet Justin Trejo

Hello, my name is Justin. Ever since I was a little kid, I knew I wanted to be a firefighter. In 2017, that dream became a reality, and today I proudly serve the City of Monterey Park. It’s a career I feel incredibly grateful for and one that has given me a firsthand understanding of both the rewards and the challenges that shift work can bring to family life.

As a husband and dad, I know what it feels like to miss bedtime, holidays, birthdays, and all the everyday moments because of my schedule. Those experiences have shaped not only our family, but also the products we create.

I’m also a firm believer that there’s always something new to learn. I’m currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership and enjoy finding opportunities to grow, whether that’s through school, my career, or our latest business adventure.

When I have a little free time, you’ll usually find me on the golf course, watching a good movie, getting in a workout, thrifting with my kids, or working on whatever project has captured my attention that week.
